The best free meditation app

man meditating

I was looking for an app that measured the time I was meditating each month and came across Insight Timer. I’ve used many of the popular meditation apps on the market including Headspace. My main criticism about Headspace and others is their subscription payment model.

At best they should be perpetual licenses. This is why I was so pleased to find Insight Timer. Here’s what they have to say: “Most meditation apps say they’re free but the reality is quite different; once the starter pack finishes they quickly lock you out. We offer the largest free library of guided meditations on earth and the world’s most loved meditation Timer, for free.”

Report on progress

I wanted an easy way to keep track of how long I was meditating on a month over month basis, this app makes that easy:

Huge catalogue of meditations

They claim to have over 19,000 guided meditations which seems excessive! If you’re like me then you’ll keep coming back to a few favourites. However, there is a useful filter feature that allows you to sort by length and theme (sleep, stress, anxiety, relax etc).
